Along with strong scientific and academic knowledge, excellent practical skills and "on the ground" understanding are required to be able to give advise that is workable and realistic, something that is often missed from the larger agricultural consultancy firms. Therefore, beside consultancy and training work, we also run the Elevage Jolivet farm in France; An Aberdeen Angus herd, providing farming holidays and smallholding courses. Visit the farm website at www.elevagejolivet.com. We make sure all the trainers and consultants we use always fully appreciate the farmer's point of view.
In the past, I grew up in an agricultural setting in France before entering a career in health care and the emergency services. I subsequently entered agriculture full time, employed as a Farm and Park Ranger in the UK, followed by employment in agricultural management by Hampshire County Council in the UK. As well as line management of the farm team and agricultural activities on a mixed livestock farm open to the public in a country park setting, I was specifically recruited to develop the Council's strategy on biosecurity and zoonosis for their two open farms and all their grazing land, as well as ensuring all welfare and environmental cross-compliance requirements were met.
